Hands-on: Acer Switch 5 Review

Before, Microsoft introduces its Microsoft surface pro 5, Acer has introduced its Acer Switch 5 to shorten the distance and remain in competition with its rival companies.

Previously, almost one year back, Acer has revealed its Switch Alpha 12 against its rival Microsoft Pro 4.

The company always tries to dominate and has a good strategy to give tough time to its rival companies. The company then expanded the Switch family and introduced Switch 3 and Switch 5.


The company is planning to reveal Switch 3 and Switch 5 in June. Starting price for Switch 5 is $1197.42 and Switch 3 is much affordable and has lower price as compared to Switch 5, starting price of Switch 3 is $543.69.

And the starting price of Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is $816.07. According to our knowledge, Keyboard cover and a digital stylus are also included in the price.

Keeping in view the design of Alpha 12 and evocative of HP Elite X2, the design of Switch 5 reassembles with them. Keyboard cover is yet again snapped into a place using magnet which holds it tightly.

The user can use Keyboard cover flat but its works more perfectly if snapped into a place a second time and provides a good angle to work on.

Obviously, the users can be able to use it as a tablet by separating the keyboard but you may not be able to use it comfortably at 920g and it is also 9.6mm thin.

Switch 5 has same specs and functionality as introduced in Alpha 12 comprises of 12in IPS touchscreen that can support a Full HD+ resolution of 2160×1440. The display is bit crusty and it will be perfect if it was brighter.

The laptop features a latest 7th-generation Intel Processor. You can also be able to get Switch 5 having Core i5 or Core i7 processors. These models also feature a standard 8GB RAM.

However, Switch 3 features a Pentium or Celeron processor, 4GB RAM, up to 128GB storage along with a 12.2in Full HD screen. There is also an SSD of 256 OR 512 GB and there is also an additional slot for Micro-SD card.

These models also feature USB-C port, Bluetooth 4.0 and 2×2 11ac Wi-Fi. There is also the USB-c dock that provides you a DisplayPort, HDMI, two USB-C 3.1 ports and three USB Type-A ports accompanied with audio input for microphone and audio output for speakers.

According to the company, these laptops are having good battery life and can last for 10.5 hours and there will be Windows 10 Home or Pro pre-installed on the laptops. These laptops also feature a front and rear cameras and you can expect that the cameras are of 2 and 5 Megapixels.

Acer Switch 5 is one of the portable laptops that can be utilized as a tablet and these models have been liked by the users. You can also call it as an improved version of Alpha 12. However, it’s price is a noticeable point that might not attract customer, therefore, the users might look for Switch 3 which is even more affordable as compared to Switch 5.
