Acer Spin 1 Review
The Acer Spin 1 is a low-cost hybrid laptop having a small screen of 11.6-inch. It does not feature a lot of memory for good performance or much storage.
However, it is very good laptops to buy and one of the best options for the people who buy laptops for browsing, emails, and video laptops at a cheap rate.
These laptops are featuring an excellent screen along with a solid build and a serviceable keyboard and trackpad. These features add a great value to Acer Spin 1.

Price And Availablity
The version of which I am writing is a bottom end version of Acer Spin 1. This version is featuring a Celeron N3350 CPU, 4GB RAM and just only 32GB of storage. It will cost you almost $330 or so.
But, if you can afford spending some more bucks then for $400 you can be able to get this version with 64GB storage.

I will recommend you to upgrade your pc if and only if you want to store some larger apps or save a huge number of media files like photos, music or video on these laptops.
Moreover, the company has also developed an aluminum version of the Acer Spin 1. The Acer Spin 1 features a slimmer, lighter casing, an active pen stylus and a powerful Pentium N4200, which can cost you almost $500.
Therefore, these features make an aluminum version of a completely different laptop as compared to our review model.
Overall, the aluminum version has a nice look. The company gives one year of carry-in” warranty with Acer Spin 1.
Design And Build
The company is known for making laptops that can be used by students in a classroom. However, Acer Spin 1 is not one of them but it has expertise that shows the company is expert in designing laptop shells.
These low-cost hybrid laptops feature a strong plastic having minimum flex. Although, these laptops are not much expensive, therefore you can let your children play with it.
Acer has tried to make the design of these laptops bit more interesting by adding blue plastic hinges, blue plastic lid, and blue plastic underside.
But, the company avoids dullness of plain black as well. There have been few textures. The company introduced the cross-hatched lid and a bottom side and there is a brushed effect inside.

Acer Spin 1 is portable and it is not much slim and light though. These laptops are 2cm thick and weigh around 1.5Kg. Yes, it is light enough to carry with you in a bag.
The primary feature of Acer Spin 1 is its hinges. These laptops can be placed in a”tent” position and it provides good resting angles as well
The weakest point in the Acer Spin 1 is its display style. Some of the budget laptops are featuring narrow screen surrounds but, in this case, we have a wider screen surrounding.
The company has included a lot of space on the top and bottom of the display as well as on both sides. Obviously, it is an old dull look from my point of view.
There is no USB-C port introduced in the Acer Spin 1 and these ports are considered standard in the modern laptops. Otherwise, the Connectivity front is fine.
These machines are having three USBs, one USB 3.0 port, an HDMI and a microSD slot in the squad. Acer Spin 1 features a volume button the right side which allows you to set the volume at a particular level.
There is also an option for connecting an external hard drive/s or a mouse or anything else. The HDMI port is there to help you in plugging in a monitor or plug these laptops into TV easily.
Earlier we said the screens big-bezel design was an Acer Spin 1 weak point. However, display quality is also its best feature. This may well be the best screen ever put into a sub-£300 Windows 10 laptop.
In the last few paragraphs, I said the screen is the weakest part of Acer Spin 1. But, it is having the best display quality.
The screen size of Acer Spin 1 is 11.6 inches and it’s an IPS LCD display. However, most of the modern laptops are having “TN” panels, which comprises of much poorer viewing angles.
TN panels are without contrast shift, which makes images or display shadowy if the screen is moved back or forward. Fortunately, Acer Spin 1’s screen is not in this category.
The display panel of Acer Spin 1 is fine. Obviously, expensive laptops do have bad color and contrast performance as well. Amazingly, Acer has introduced an expensive display panel at this price.
These laptops cover almost 90.7% of the sRGB colors and this is really a great thing at $400 laptop.
These laptops deliver vivid colors, thus allows you to have a good view of movies and games. It covers almost 66.3% of Adobe RGB colors as well as 70.5% of DCI P3 with good results.
Acer Spin 1 features a good contrast of 1090:1. The maximum brightness can be set at 359cd/m.
To give you some idea of how fantastic this performance is, from a cheap TN-screen laptop we might see sRGB coverage of 55%, contrast of 400:1 and brightness of about 250cd/m.
This is a true quality display. Let’s look at the display and colors that are delivered by any TN screen.
A TN screen can cover almost 55% of sRGB colors, a contrast of 400:1 and brightness can set at 250cd/m max. This shows that Acer Spin 1’s display is very good.
These laptops feature good sharpness, the small size of the screen allows you to have a good display at 1080p resolution.
If you want to identify some of the faults, then see the pixel structure, it will be brighter than some other IPS screen.
The blackspot turns to gray when you will watch a movie in dimmer lightroom. But, we can say that it features the best screen at this price as compared to all other laptops available in the market.
The screen is a touch screen and features a Gorilla Glass on the upper layer. Gorilla Glass is commonly used in tablets and smartphones.
Keyboard And Trackpad
The keyboard and trackpad of Acer Spin 1 are bit conventional but it’s fine. The widescreen bezels have provided enough space for good layout and on this layout, you can feel comfortable while typing.
Like other expensive models, the key actions is not good and it feels but chunky. Due to solid build quality, the keyboard surroundings are hard and solid.
It can be flexed fractionally if a decent amount of pressure is applied on the Keyboard. And, it does not provide a spongy typing feeling.
The keyboard is without any backlight, but if you want to get a version featuring backlight, you need to spend around $700.
Acer Spin 1 features a perfectly serviceable smooth plastic rectangle trackpad. The trackpad is the good and small amount of pressure is required to press the button.
Performance is the only part that makes this laptop a perfect portable laptop. Acer Spin 1 features an Intel Celeron N3350 CPU and a dual-core processor.
The clock speed of its processor is almost 1.1GHz, not a much powerful processor. Unfortunately, Acer Spin 1 comprises poor benchmark results.
The Acer Spin 1 manages to score just 1823 points in Geekbench 4. However, the 8th generation with Core i5 CPU manages to score almost 14000 points.
After spending a couple of hours on Acer Spin 1 and testing its features and performance, we can say that it is a bit faster than older and Celeron laptops.
But, mostly these laptops perform finer as compared to the basic version. Performing some basic productivity jobs including writing documents and browsing the web does not harm the performance of Acer Spin 1.
You can fell a lag i the navigation of Windows 10 but it is not much disturbing. But, you can feel that the web pages with badly constructed ads having transparency effects for covering screens can affect the performance of Acer Spin 1.
But, you can scroll or navigate between different websites easily and there is no lag between typing and appearance of words in the address bar.
Obviously, it seems that the company compromises to a performance of Acer Spin 1. Those users who want to enjoy some remotely challenging apps can go for Intel Core i3 laptop or Pentium Gold.
Apparently, this laptop is an excellent and even more versatile alternative to Chromebook. Yes, the gaming performance of Acer Spin 1 is very poor as well.
The spec of our review model includes 32GB of solid-state memory. Which means that there is not enough space for installing any type of modern AAA games.
After installing Windows 10, you can only have 8-9GB of space for storing anything you want. Clearly, very less memory for installing any type of game.

At Alien: isolation manages to run 8fps with all settings set at low and a resolution of 720p, and it is clearly below playable speed.
And, at 1080p resolution, the Acer Spin 1 manages to run an average between 1.5-2fps.
However, the Lenovo IdeaPad 320S which is featuring even more powerful Pentium 4450U CPU has managed to score an average of 16.7fps with all setting set to low at 720p resolution.
According to the company, if you want to play some games on Acer Spin 1 then you can buy a 64GB version of these laptops.
For example, older games like Fallout: New Vegas can be played at 720p resolution with all settings set to low.
Well, if you want to play some popular games like Asphalt 8, which is a mobile phone conversion racer game and it can be downloaded from Microsoft Store.
You can not be able to play the game at 1080p resolution but it can be played at 720p resolution with low settings.
With such a low-end processor, it seems that these laptops will be having some pure passive cooling and it remains silent for sure.
But, you can feel that the back of a laptop gets warm after you play some games but nothing to worry about it.
But, for performing some extra jobs like browsing the web and using office apps you need some powerful processor just like the Lenovo IdeaPad 320S.
The speakers of Acer Spin 1 are good. The speakers of Acer Spin 1 features no real bass and a boxy mids. Therefore, the sound does not collapse at the maximum level or volume.
The battery life of Acer Spin 1 is good. According to the company, these laptops can last for almost 9 hours.
But, if we play a 720p video on loop at 120cd/m screen brightness, these laptops provides some good result.
This laptop can last for almost 11 hours and 55 minutes, this is an excellent result. But, with mixed-use, you can expect some worst results for sure. Yes, you can easily do your full day’s work.

One thing you need to note is that, try to put enough pressure for plugging in charger into the socket for charging a battery. And, it is really annoying to pull off the charger from a socket.
